Monday, January 21st, 2008I am sorry that we are falling behind. Michael and I have had our lives flipped upside down by our place of employment last week. I am going to be flying from one coast to another. I will be interviewing with a couple game studios and will not have a chance to really focus on the comic for a week and for this I apologize. Michael could use some love so please feel free to post some here on the website. This week I have a page that focuses on Ogres and Trolls. This was a fun page to create. I promise that Michael and I will get back on track as soon as we can. Until then I will only be able to post these kinds of pages.
Some very good news!
We now have an inker who’s been ramping up on inking my style of work. His name is Mattias Sjostrand and is quite talented. Here’s a link to his Deviant page, go check it out! Thanks everyone and please be patient, we will be back and in full production soon.

Great page, I always like characterpages like this, it shows that the creators have thought about what they draw ^^
P.S. you forgot the link to Mattias’ deviantart page! It’s: http://muady.deviantart.com/

Great work guys, And don’t feel bad about falling behind. You have set a high standard for yourselves, and I think we would all be dissapointed if you started slopping things together just to appease a few miscreants who lurk around waiting for updates. I’d rather get a great page every week-ish than 3 ’so-so’ pages a week.
If I might ask a question. How tall are the creatures you have pictures, trolls/ogres and goblins?
Having lived quite a bit in the Northern reaches of Europe, in my experience that most of the nordic people that I encountered were slightly taller than me (a little more than 6′ for them) and more slender 180-195 lbs or so lbs. I’m Scottish, so… 6′ tall and 4′ wide pretty well describes me
Anyhow, just curious, it seemed to me that the goblins were pretty tall creatures comparatively.

I must agree with Ken C. I’d rather wait for great page than 3 so so pages. Yes I come in and I check once a week but I’m not going to ask that you comprise the quality that you have put into this comic just so I can read the next installment of E.L. I just won’t have it. So please there really is no need to apologize. And if others can’t understand that your busy then they can go read some sucky comic with bad graphics and a horrible storyline.

I like all the mystery and that you don’t tell us everything. Like why they want the sword, I would assume since it kills evil in her hands maybe it’ll kill good in anothers hand. I like that you don’t use the same monsters you see in every comic. Even the goblin loko scary in yours. Keep up the great job.

Nah, not for me - rather lesser quality and more quantity.Love awesome artwork , don’t kid yourself but not at the exspence of slowing the story to a snails pace. You have to strike a balance.
Some of my fav comics such as misfile or YAFC(yet another fantasy comic) and simple pencil jobs , yet they propel the story on at a fantastic rate.Nothings lost by that, and everyone gains.
just my two cents!

Hey everyone, just thought I’d give a more substantial follow-up so you have a better idea what’s going on. The company Kris and I work for is going through a major restructuring, and as a result my position has been eliminated, and Kris has decided to take another job out west rather than accepting a “revised” position in our company’s NC office. This has thrown Kris’ family life into turmoil as well, since relocation to the west coast is a major transition on short notice. That said, it IS his personal life, so I will let him talk about that as much or as little as he feels inclined to. My life is also chaotic, but I am one of those lucky bastards whose wife has always made a lot more, and so in the short term at least I am not hurting (though if you know anyone looking for a good senior designer to do consulting work from the midwest, let me know!).
So, what does that all mean? Well, for me you’d think it means a lot of time to write, but getting your pink slip after six years with no warning DOES throw your balance off, and writing has been scatter-brained. For Kris, it means packing, looking for an apartment, dealing with logistics, and all that jazz in a very short time frame. He is a bit wild-eyed at the moment, and he worries about the state of the comic, but he’s hanging in there. He is even (from what I have seen) holding up with his cutting back on smoking, which is better than I am doing with the single malts.
And so looking forward. Over the last few days Kris and I have spent HOURS talking and writing notes (me at least, Kris keeps it all in that tin bucket he calls his head) and planning next moves. I had about a dozen short word docs with the many threads of story I was interested in, but I think Kris and I have resolved to continue the current story from it’s ending point as it stands (right after the return to Arcadia). I have the outline of the story laid out, and will work over the next days (week if things go badly) to flesh it out so Kris can (if he has time) review it and make suggestions/changes.
Kris already has some drawings, but no colors, which is a lot of time, so no telling when they will come on line. I would expect to see some roughs to keep the hordes from ravening, but not sure when to expect finished products. Also our intent to re-work the first book may be delayed, because in the course of planning books 2 and 3 (yes, we started on book 3 in concept already) I had some thoughts on MORE stuff to wedge into book 1, and we want to do it properly.
Anyway, I imagine most of you are tired of reading already, and my martini glass is shockingly low. But, like Gandalf offering his apology for how long his speech was at the Council of Elrond (just finished re-reading the trilogy for about the 160th time - and yes I mean that literally, I am a sick man with too much time), I will say that we have been offering short production for some time, so I thought we owed a more lengthy explanation to make up for it.
Thag you very buch.

My two cents are that we should be in total support of both Kris and Michael. This comic is FAR too cool and too important to be rushed. This period of time (over the last month) has been awful for a select few where Kris and MRJ worked; up until recently. I think what this comic and these two gentlemen need the most is our support :D.
You both have done phenominal things for the fantasy genre, so although my excitement gets the best of me at times over this comic, the sanity of you both trumps all in my opinion :). We’ll be watching and waiting excitedly until the next update occurs.
All the best to you both during this rough period,
Degs

Thanks everyone. Yeah, so we have a few personal issues to deal with. This has been hard for me and I am still in the middle of a messy separation and trying to get started out in Oregon. I am alone for the first time since I can remember and it makes me nervous. I have been working hard to regain my focus and get back into the comic as well as a being a game designer. Today I will be posting some new unfinished work that I hope will tide you all over till I get set up in Eugene Oregon. You can also check out my Deviant art site at:

Thanks for being cool…
